Tortilla Day at school

On Monday, the class read about making tortillas. Mrs. Scholder read to the class in English; Mrs. Gonzales read the same to the class in Spanish. Afterwards, Mrs. Gonzales helped the class make tortillas. Here's the recipe she used:

Mix:

1 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 tablespoon shortening

Add slowly 1/3 cup warm milk.
Knead.
Form 6 or 7 balls.
Roll or pat flat.
Cook in ungreased skillet.
Butter, fold and eat!

Makes 6 to 7 tortillas.

Nov. 5th PTA Meeting: A Very Brief and Unofficial Summary

Parent volunteers needed to watch the west/back gate in the mornings from 8:00 to 8:40 AM, M-F. If you can only do 1/2 hour to 1 hour a week, volunteer to help out at the front gate tables. This is to sign in and sign out visitors. Also asking for parent volunteers to help with traffic at morning drop-off. Contact the Safety Chair, Mark.

Please join the PTA if you haven't yet. Membership dues are $6 per parent.

Please support Roosevelt by turning in your Annual Giving donation if you haven't yet. Our donations help pay for our kindergarten aides, for xeroxing costs, and other essentials not covered by the school budget.
